                              Learn about current research into the effect animals can have on people's physical and emotional health
                              the differences between service and therapy animals, and the resources available through the Delta Society.

                              Animal Cruelty and Cats - Dr. Randall Lockwood, Sr. Vice President, Anti-Cruelty Field Services ASPCA
                              Cat abuse is underreported and often given a low priority by law enforcement.  Explore the significance of cruelty
                               to cats and steps that can be taken to respond.

                              Chemical Capture - Bill Brothers, ACES
                               Full day class for field officers who need training in Chemical Capture tools and techniques.  Attendees will
                               receive Certificate of Completion.

20 years ago we reviewed the possible impact of changing attitudes and technology on the profession of animal 
                              control as it might appear in 2000.  What did we get right and wrong and what does it suggest for the next 10
                              years.

1:30 - 3:00 p.m.        Helping Horses in Need - Pat Brown, Clark County Programs Director for RHAF (Ripley's Horse Aid Fdn)
                              Pat will talk about animal control agencies and non-profits (NGO's) working together in a cooperative
                              environment to help horse-owners and horses in need.
                             Current Wildlife Trends - Officer Wendy Willette, Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife
                             Officer Willette will review current trends in wildlife numbers, issues and new programs in place.

                             Dr. Hopkins will give an update on current issues and trends with zoonotic diseases.

                             How veterinary forensics is enabling law enforcement to bring new evidence into the courtroom to help tell the
                             stories of the animals that have suffered or died.

9:00 - 10 a.m.         Sheltering Strategies for Pitbulls and their Mixes - BAD RAP
                            Donna Reynolds and Tim Racer from BAD RAP draw on their experience in both private and public shelter
                            settings for this session on selecting and housing pit bulls.  Attendees will get a glimpse into BAD RAP's
                            evaluation techniques, including dog-dog introductions; learn how they've been reducing kennel stress and
                            helping dogs stay sane and adoptable.
                            Cockfighting 201 - Sgt. Jody White, Wenatchee Valley Humane Society
                            Many of us have had classes about animal fighting in general, now hear from one of our own in Washington
                            who's walked the talk.  Sgt. White will review case histories from Wenatchee, take us from suspicion to
                            prosecution and tell us how they did it.

                            An overview of innovative public safety laws and ordinances across the country that combat reckless
                           owners.  Includes an in-depth discussion on tools you can use to navigate the complex challenges that
                           reckless owners bring to our communities.

Saturday, October 3

9:00 - 1:00 p.m.     Time for Change, Communith Partnerships for a Better Day - BAD RAP
                           Be part of the solution.  We invite shelter workers, rescue organizational and members of the public
                           to gather for a morning of looking forward towards positive change.  BAD RAP will outline progressive
                           programs in the San Francisco Bay area that are working to reduce the number of unwanted pitbulls
                           and improve the community's commitment to responsible dog ownership.  Attendees will break into
                           groups for discussion.
