YOU CAN'T AFFORD TO MISS THIS ONE!

The annual training conference will be held on October 1st-3rd, 2009 at the Embassy Suites in Lynnwood and is once again sponsored by the Washington Animal Control Association and the Washington State Federation of Animal Care & Control Agencies.  The conference planning committee has been working hard to bring you a conference packed with training opportunities that you simply can’t pass up, especially opportunities that are in your own back yard.

Here are just some of the classes being offered:

BAD RAP (Bay Area Doglovers Responsible About Pitbulls) will present a full day seminar on Friday and half a day on Saturday, covering topics important to everyone in the animal welfare field– from those who work with this breed in shelters, to officers in the field, volunteers, rescue workers, and others involved in law enforcement. The class will feature presentations from Bad Rap co-founders Debbie Reynolds and Tim Racer, as well as Ledy VanKavage, Esq., who will talk about dangerous dog l egislation. The Saturday session will be open to volunteers, rescue groups and interested public as well.

Conference Keynote speaker Randall Lockwood, PhD, ASPCA Sr. Vice President, Anti-Cruelty Field Services will present a class on animal cruelty and cats in addition to his keynote address. Dr. Lockwood has degrees in psychology and biology from Wesleyan University in Connecticut and a Doctorate in Psychology from Washington University in St. Louis. For over thirty years he has worked with humane societies and law enforcement agencies serving as an expert on the interactions between people and animals.

Chemical Capture presented by Bill Brothers of Animal Care Equipment and Services. This class provides training in an essential skill for animal care and control officers who may need to use this technique in the field. We are also working on topics such as Zoonotic Diseases (what is new, what is changing), Verbal De-Escalation, and Animal Hoarding (large and small animals).

Auction Items Needed!

Don’t forget to bring auction items for the Friday night banquet dinner and auction! This is a great tradition and is sure to be loads of fun again this year with Randy Richards back by popular demand. The dinner and auction provide a great opportunity to get to meet new friends and associates, exchange valuable ideas and information and to help us raise money so we can continue to bring this valuable
training conference back each year.
